Insider Travel Tips

  • Incheon Intl Airport is 48 km west of Seoul. The Airport Railway Express (AREX) brings you to Seoul Station in central Seoul in just 43 minutes for 8,000 won (about US$6).
  • Summers can be hot and humid in Korea — monsoons in July & August bring half the annual rainfall. Locals head to Haeundae Beach in Busan or to Jeju Island. Mild temperatures and low rainfall make spring & autumn ideal. Enjoy hikes in National Parks Jirisan, Songnisan, and Seoraksan.
  • Visiting Seoul: (1) Tour Gyeongbokgung Palace, rent a Korean gown (hanbok), watch changing of guard. (2) See traditional Korean houses (hanok) in Bukchon Hanok Village. (3) Have lunch in Insadong Street, known for tea houses, local foods & art. (4) Jogyesa, head temple of Korean Buddhism near Insadong, has ancient trees and peaceful courtyards. (5) Sample street food at Gwangjang Market.
  • Seoul's Itaewon Street is full of character: trendy shops, restaurants, alleyways, and cosy cafes. Hannam-dong (Hannam for short), an affluent area on a nearby hillside, is a hub for fashion, cafes, and art.
